JSSCC was founded in May 2000. We received non-profit status (501c3) in Nov 2000. We have 11 directors who meet monthly, the 2nd Sunday of every month at 8pm (7 pm in winter months). The meetings are open to all and announced in our email newsletter. We have created this website “santacruzjazz.org” that contains pages of interest to the local jazz community, including a Musician Referral that lists over 180 local jazz players. We publish an e-mail Jazz Newsletter that reaches over 850 people in SC area. As of Oct 2003 we have 180 paid members ($20 yearly dues) and are reaching out for more. We hold a 4 hour Jam Session every Sunday at Bocci's Cellar, 140 Encinal St. (427-1795)in Santa Cruz. We held our first annual Music Swap Meet at Calvary Church SC on Aug 25, 01. We received a $1000 grant from the Cultural Council of SCC and a $2000 grant from the City of Santa Cruz's Arts Commission to launch the Jam Sessions. JSSCC has produced a compilation CD: Santa Cruz Jazz 2001 with tracks contributed by most local jazz groups. The production costs were generously funded by StreetLight Records, 941 Pacific Avenue, S.C. This will be the first in a continuing series of CDs to document the jazz history of SC. The CDs are available at Streetlight Records. The 2nd annual CD is now in production. A 2nd compilation CD, SANTA CRUZ JAZZ Vol. 2 is now available.
We encourage everyone to get involved. Check the membership page for details. For further information or comments, please email Steve Newman.
