JSSCC was founded in May 2000. We received non-profit status (501c3) in Nov 2000. We have 9 directors who meet monthly, the 2nd Sunday of every month at 7.30pm . The meetings are open to all and announced in our email newsletter.
We have created this website “santacruzjazz.org” that contains pages of interest to the local jazz community, including a Musician Referral that lists over 200 local jazz players. We publish an e-mail Jazz Newsletter that reaches over 1500 people in SC area.
Currently we have over 100 paid members ($20 yearly dues, including 27 Sustaining ($10/month)members.
We hold a 4 hour Jam Session every Sunday at Bocci's Cellar, 140 Encinal St. (427-1795)in Santa Cruz. We held our first annual Music Swap Meet at Calvary Church SC on Aug 25, 01.
This year 2010 we received no grants and are financed solely by online donations and the tip jar at our Sunday jams.
JSSCC has produced 4 compilation CDs: Every 2 years or so we produce a new one with tracks contributed by most local jazz groups. The production costs of the first cd in 2001 were generously funded by StreetLight Records, 941 Pacific Avenue, S.C. These cds are part of a continuing series of CDs to document the jazz history of SC. The CDs are available at Bocci's Cellar at the Sunday Jams, or by clicking the DONATE button and specifying CD.
We have teamed up with JustGive.org to introduce secure online donations.
